I believe this came from my grandmother. Left overs are great! The more beef the less sloppy the sloppy joe. 1 - 15 oz can of tomato sauce can be substituted for the tomato soup. Add a squirt of ketchup instead of brown sugar for a tangy flavor. Goes great with dill pickles.

Ingredients For cowboy sloppy joes

  • 1-1.5 lb
    ground beef
  • 1 dash
    salt
  • 1 dash
    black pepper
  • 1/2 c
    chopped onion
  • 1/2 c
    chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 can
    (10.75 oz) condensed tomato soup
  • 1 can
    (15 oz) pork and beans
  • 2 Tbsp
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 pkg
    hamburger buns (8 in package)

How To Make cowboy sloppy joes

    In electric or large stove top skillet on high heat, brown ground beef with salt, pepper, onion and green bell pepper until thoroughly cooked. Drain grease.

    Add tomato soup and pork and beans (without any fat chunks that are usually on top). Stir.

    Add brown sugar and sitre.

    Reduce heat to low. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    Serve on hamburger buns.
