I learned to make these at camp when I was a girl. They are tasty and I adapted them for home. Better when placed onto a stick and cooked over an open fire or grill but can be made indoors during the winter months or whenver you have your grandkids over. We adults like them, too.

How to Make CAMP NEWAGO HOT DOGS

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat broiler on toaster oven and line broiler pan with aluminum foil.
  2. Open package of hot dogs and slice lengthwise about 2/3rds the way thru.
  3. Cut cheese slices into strips and stuff into hot dogs the whole length.
  4. Wrap each hot dog with a bacon strip starting at one end and working along the length like candy cane stripes. Secure at ends with a toothpick.
  5. Place under hot broiler and cook until bacon is completely cooked through and cheese is melted.
  6. Place split open hot dog buns under broiler top and watch carefully to brown them slightly while hot dogs cook.
  7. After removing food from broiler, serve dogs on the buns remembering to remove toothpicks.
  8. Can be garnished with diced onions, relish & barbecue sauce, and served along with baked beans and potato chips. Makes a great lunch.
