My Aunt always made the best baked beans. At the family reunion I was the 1st in line to get my fair share. When I was at cooking age,I asked her how she made them. She used her own cooked beans and other ingredients. Well I don't cook my soup beans but use the other ingredients which make them very close to what she made.

Ingredients For the secert to the best baked beans

  • can
    2 bushs homestyle baked beans 28 oz
  • pkg
    half lb bacon cut the package in half
  • md
    onion chopped
  • c
    heinz ketchup 1/4 to 1/2
  • c
    1/2 brown sugar

How To Make the secert to the best baked beans

    Fry 1/2 lb bacon done but not crispy. Drain on paper towel. Put your diced onion in skillet with bacon drippings fry until clear, let sit in skillet.

    Place Beans in large baking dish and add ketchup and brown sugar,mix well. Add fried onions and some of the drippings mix well. Place Cooked Bacon on top and bake at 350 for 1 1/2 hours or until thick.

    I also add some sliced weiners, cut about 1/2 inch and mix in beans for a comfort food meal with some corn bread on the side. Yummie
