I love Sloppy Joes, but really don't like the taste of the canned products. This is what I came up with.

Ingredients For homemade sloppy joe sauce

  • 1
    onion, diced
  • 1
    bell pepper, diced
  • 1 tsp
    minced garlic
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 1/2 c
    ketchup
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 tsp
    dry mustard
  • 2 Tbsp
    steak sauce
  • 3 Tbsp
    barbecue sauce
  • 3 dash
    hot sauce
  • 1 can
    tomato sauce
  • 1 can
    diced tomatos
  • 1 lb
    ground beef

How To Make homemade sloppy joe sauce

    Sautee onion and bell pepper until mostly done, add ground beef and cook until browned. (I go light on the meat... but I'm sure you can add what works for your family.)

    Add all remaining ingredients, bring to slow boil, cover and slow cook for at least an hour. (I went 3 with mine.)

    Serve on toasted hamburger buns... or however you prefer. (I served this with homemade Jojos (steak fries).
