This cookie is a hit at office parties, and a great last-minute gift for a neighbor! If they go to work, none ever make it home again.

Ingredients For oatmeal cookies

  • 1 stick
    butter, softened
  • 1/2 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c
    light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1
    egg
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 c
    uncooked old fashioned whole grain oats (not quick cooking!)
  • 1 c
    all purpose flour

How To Make oatmeal cookies

    Cream together butter and sugars
  • 2
    Add vanilla and egg and stir until blended
  • 3
    Add baking powder, baking soda, and salt and stir until blended
  • 4
    Add oats and stir until blended
  • 5
    Add flour and stir until thoroughly mixed
  • 6
    Line cookie sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease cookie sheet

    Roll dough into balls about the size of a walnut that is still in the shell - smaller size will be a smaller cookie

    Place on cookie sheet about 2 inches apart

    Lightly grease a flat bottomed glass

    Dip glass in sugar then gently press the dough; do this step twice for each dough ball

    Bake on greased cookie sheet 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

    Store tightly covered for up to 2 weeks
