That was my great uncles favorite sandwich when I was little Susan!! He had me try it once and I just could not get that Limburger past my nose!! HAHA!! But definitely give them a try grilled!! I take the cap from the balsamic and fill that and then splash a cap full over the onion while grilling! Its delish!!
Wow, Linda Kauppinen!!! That's an awesome idea!!! I think I'll try grilling them the next time I get the grill fired up!! I must confess, though .... my husband and I like to slice them and make (ok ..... get ready...) Limburger and onion sandwiches on rye bread ...... with lots of butter and a beer chaser!!! Needless to say, we usually only do that once a year .... with limburger costs up ....... just one of our "quirky" treats.... lol
Hi Susan!! I recognized the bulb and how they look if I peel them! Down here in Florida they sell them with the greens still attached. They look like monster Green onions. I leave stems on, cut in half and grill with a splash of balsamic or even add them to other dishes too! They are sweet and taste fantastic!!
Hello Linda!!! I know these onions have a few different names .... I don;t remember what they are ... but, I'm glad you recognized them from my picture ..... this is how they sell them here ...... peeled with part of the stem attached....
They are not called candyapple onions here in Florida, and I cannot remember what they are called here... but these are absolutely great for grilling too with a splash of balsamic vinegar!
