Wow! Thanks Lisa and Rose! I was so pleased with how it came out. I was a little unsure about the syrup part, but I looked up some cake syrup recipes online to get more details. You have to boil the sugar solution first, and then take it off the heat and let it cool. It gets thicker as it rests. I only needed half of the syrup called for in the recipe. I found out that a lot of bakeries brush their cake layers with simple syrup to keep them moist. I never knew about that trick, an it works. I kept the cake stored in the fridge, and it's still so moist and flavorful today.
Rose: How cool is that!? I actually live over the bridge in NJ now, but my home is always in Philly. I'm originally from there, and spend a lot of time in the city.
I see you are from Philadelphia, Pa. I was born and raised in Pa. Moved to Philadelphia after I got married and lived there for four years...NORTHEAST Philadelphia. Then moved to Florida where we now live. 6/24/12
This is not one of the easiest cake recipes on JAP so you can be proud of your accomplishment in making THIS recipe and WOW it turned out really, really great! 6/24/12

Then there's the Ben Franklin and the Walt Whitman Bridges.... Brings back some memories for me.
