If you try bleaching the bottom before you have it layered then if it does damage the ends they will be cut off anyway.

It is 45 years of dyeing it that concerns me. my hair needs a rest. I would chop it all off but it panics Eric. I cut about 2 inches off every 5-6 weeks but there is lots to go.I am getting it layered again soon, can never get free on the proper day for it. That will take a lot off also.

Have them do a strand color test first before doing all of it down there (they could do it underneath so it doesn't show if it didn't work).

You could have a hairdresser wrap strands in foil and bleach it and then put a gray toner on it. It's not good to bleach for a long time, but it does not look that dark and may pull it out quickly.

Don't let them put it on the virgin part of your hair though, just the part that has the color already on it.

Do you know a way to get the red out without distroying the rest of my hair. Eric loves the grey calls it witchy. I just want it one color
