Someone ask that I post a picture of the doughnut cutter, or the center cut out with it to make the holes. Here is the whole cutter. I have posted another picture showing the break down of it.
I entered my story behind these doughnuts in Wilton's Mother's Day Contest & I won (2) sets of their ultimate cake decorating kits, each valued at $250. I'm thrilled! My Mom would have been, IS, tickled to death!
Made on September 10, 2011...I made several dozen of donuts last night, but I cut them smaller in size than what was recommended. They are so good that they are almost all gone today! Thank you for sharing your family recipe!
Dough rising in bowl. How ironic that I grabbed the one bowl that was Mom's to rise them in without thinking & never noticed till I was almost done rising.
My job was watching the cooking oil in the pot and turning the doughnuts at just the right time. Then I took them out of the oil and put them in a brown paper bag with sugar and shook the bag to coat the doughnuts with sugar. Then I put them on brown paper grocery bags to soak up some of the oil. BOY those doughnuts were sooooo good while still hot. YUM. Not quite the same as your doughnuts; but they were good...and I'm positive yours are too!! 5/08/12 2231
I use to use that to cut out my biscuits, but a can cut with one of those can openers works much better. My Mom never had one of these can openers. LOL!!
It brings back many memories for me also.I think more parents should create memories like this with their children or families. My BIL & SIL were here last week & he wanted me to make some of these. He had seen them on the internet. Of course, my neighbor(4 miles away)helps me out sometimes & I made them some also. We were knee deep in doughnuts & before it was over, all 4 of us were into it. Hubby should have been sitting down. He just got home from hospital for having back surgery & a stroke. He didn't do anything but straw-boss on the dipping process (that's usually his job. He enjoyed that! LOL!!Another memory made!
Cool idea...using a can to cut the doughnuts. My mom used and upside-down drinking glass... 5/08/12 1759
This recipe sure does bring back wonderful memories!!!
Is that can in the back the open can you used to cut them? I was looking at the cutters on Amazon.com.. and I thought to myself... I've been baking for so many years, without special cutters (except for fancy shaped cookie cutters), using glasses, open cans, and so on... why would I need a fancy set of expensive cutters?
So now, if you were able to make 150 incredible looking doughnuts, with an open can... so can I! LOL
