this comes from my maternal grandmother. I think it came from her "Inglenook"Cookbook.

Ingredients

2 lb
fresh tomatoes
2 tsp
baking powder
2 Tbsp
butter
2 c
whole milk
2 Tbsp
flour
pinch
salt and pepper

Directions Step-By-Step

clean, core and dice whole tomatoes, mash with potato masher, sprinkle with baking soda, cook on low until tomatoes are soft app. 10 min.Press tomatoes through a sieve.

make a roux with flour and milk. wisk until smooth. Add slowly to the tomatoes. cook over low heat until it begins to thicken.Be careful, and stir often so it doesn't scorch.

add butter and season with salt & pepper to taste, toward the end of cooking.
