Bread and Butter Pickles

This was a recipe my mom and grandmother used to make. They are yummy! I haven't made this yet myself, but I have eaten plenty of them! LOL If you love bread and butter pickles, you will love these, and I was excited to see how easy the recipe is when I found it. Even I can do this, and I'm going to! I hope you do too! Enjoy!

2 qt
cucumbers, or 16 (4-5 inches long) each, sliced
1 1/2 c
1 qt
boiling water
2 c
onion, sliced
2 c
green bell peppers, sliced
2 c
red or yellow bell peppers, sliced
2 c
cider vinegar
1 tsp
celery seed
2 c
1 tsp
mustard seed
3/4 tsp
turmeric seed

Directions Step-By-Step

In a large glass bowl, toss cucumber slices with salt. Pour boiling water over and let set overnight.
Next day:

Put on a large pot of water to boil. Use a pot large enough to process jars in.
Prepare vegetables and combine with remaining ingredients in a large sauce pan. Stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Increase heat and bring to a boil.
Add cucumbers to mixture and cook gently for five minutes.
Pack mixture into clean, sterilized jars, remove air bubbles and seal. Process in boiling water for five minutes.
