Catalina Dressing

This recipe was passed to me from another "Navy wife" back in the 80's. It's a little on the sweeter side but don't let that scare you! It's just delicious on a spinach salad with red onion slices, bacon and fresh mushrooms. Some of my friends dress the salad with the dressing while it's warm, My family likes it chilled! Gotta love a recipe with "options" (and) in 2004 I did Atkins, and made it with Splenda and Heinz reduced sugar ketchup and it was great!

Stove Top

Ingredients

1 c
salad oil, vegtable or canola
1 c
ketchup (i use hunt's) but your choice
1/2 c
suger
1/2 c
apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp
worcestershire sauce (i actually do 3 shakes)
1/2 tsp
salt
1/4 tsp
pepper

Step-By-Step

1Measure everything in a small (2 qt) saucepan and whisk until you no longer see any oil separation.
2place pan on medium heat, heat stirring until sugar is dissolved, it doesn't need to come to a boil, just until the graininess is gone. cool and put in your MOST decorative container!
3This dressing keeps well in the fridge. I've had some for 6 weeks and it tasted perfect. Just give it a GOOD SHAKE!!!
