Directions
In a medium size bowl, combine the tuna with the mayonnaise (do NOT use Miracle Whip--it won't taste the same). Mix well, breaking up chunks of tuna.Fold in celery, onion, and lemon juice until well blended.Add walnuts and toss. Serve on thick slices of rye or pumpernickel. If I'm only making this for myself I cut the recipe in half. It can easily be halved, doubled, or tripled for more people.

But I have a question...
Your recipes say...Ellens Famous recipe???

Just saying.... a little misleading???

Hi Nancy,
Well, I always use the word "famous" sort of tongue-in-cheek. And the restaurant in question has been out of business for at least five years, and it never was famous--just a small-town place.
Most people who know me know that I have a weird sense of humor, so maybe I should put the word "famous" in quotes on my recipes?
Take care,
Ellen

I have made this same tuna salad recipe for years (learned it from my Grandmother)...only difference is she taught me to use slithered almonds (or thin sliced almonds) because so many in our fam is allergic to walnuts.
Guess this means Grandma was Famous...=;D

Great looking Tuna Ellen..all recipes originated somewhere if we only kept that in mind. I really don't think many recipes are what we can say ours... because somewhere down the road someone has made whatever recipe it might be the same exact way..there are only so many ingredients and so many ways of using them..so someone was bound to make most recipes ever made the same as someone else..I read an article about that very subject..so, Ellen...it can be yours if you want it to be.....another way to look at it is..where you got the recipe, ever wonder where they got it?..kind of makes you think doesn't it?..I don't think any given recipe belongs to anyone...that's my opinion and I'm sticking with it...ha ha! Thanks for your recipe Ellen..What is this anyway, a one up competition?..not directed at you Ellen!..hugs, Cass

Ellen,
In your notes about the recipe you said that you got it from a local restauranteur....would be nice if you told us WHICH restaurant and gave them the credit for this recipe too.
I know it's a good recipe as I've made it this way all my life; barring the walnuts. Next time I make tuna salad I'll add those as it sounds yummy. I've always used Hellman's mayo too. I think it's the best. 1/13/13
