There are many variations of this dish. I made this one up because I really didn't know how to make it lol. It doesn't call for meat and the pasta sauce can be your own, or any jar sauce. When I don't have my own on hand, I use Rao's Marinara. This will be soupy when you first make it. Serve with crusty Italian bread. It thickens up nicely by the next day.
In a 6-8 quart saucepan, add the olive oil and garlic. Saute over moderate heat until just golden. Add the onion and stir. Saute 3 minutes.
Add the beans , pasta sauce, and seasonings. Mix well until heated through. Turn heat to high, add the chicken broth. When it boils, add the elbow macaroni. When it boils again, turn heat down to medium high. Cook until pasta is done, about 10 minutes.
Add the parmesan cheese, stir and cook for another 5 minutes. Serve with Italian or Portuguese bread.
