Directions Step-By-Step

Mediterranean Chili
½ ground lamb
½ ground beef
1/8 lb ground pork
1 med onion diced
3-4 cloves of garlic diced
2 roma tomatoes diced
1 small cucumber peeled and diced
1 med jalapeno diced (seeded if desired)
3-4 tbsp Baharat spice
3 tbsp chili powder
2 tsp cumin
1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1 tbsp smoked paprika
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
2 tbsp oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
1 can tomato sauce (14 ounce)
1 can crushed tomato (14 ounce)
1 cup water
1 can garbanzo beans drained
1 can black beans drained
Handful fresh mint chopped
2 cinnamon sticks
Olive oil to cover the bottom of a dutch oven
Add olive oil to pot
Add onion and sauté about 3 minutes
And baharat, cumin, chili powder, crushed red pepper flakes, smoked paprika, ground cinnamon and oregano and sauté about 2 mins
Add jalapeno, cucumber and roma tomatoes sauté about 3-5 mins
Add all meat and cook through
Add tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, salt and pepper and cinnamon sticks (salt and pepper to taste)
Simmer for 45 mins partially covered
Then add garbanzo beans, black beans and mint
Remove cinnamon sticks
Heat through (about 5 minutes)
Serve over barley or couscous with a dollop of greek yougurt if desired
