Kelly's Story

The first time I ever had “buffalo wings”, I just about flipped!! What an awesome idea that lady from Buffalo, New York had!!! Ever since then, I’ve used the same concept making dips, pizzas, salads, and my latest concoction…HOAGIES! They are REALLY good!! Enjoy! :D

Blue Ribbon Recipe

Notes from the Test Kitchen:
We are suckers for the combo of blue cheese and buffalo wings. Add garlic and muenster, and we're hooked! A wonderful game-day treat.

Ingredients

4
hoagie rolls split half lengthwise through the middle
3/4 c
butter (1 1/2 sticks), softened
2 Tbsp
minced garlic
2 Tbsp
chopped fresh parsley
1
(20 ounce) bag (7 serving size) southwestern-seasoned chicken breast strips (tyson fully-cooked), or use rotisserie, grilled, or
1 bottle
(1/2 cup) frank's red hot sauce, original or buffalo wing flavor
4 Tbsp
butter
1 Tbsp
sweet baby ray's bbq sauce
1/2 tsp
chili powder
8 slice
muenster cheese, can sub mozzarella or provolone
2 c
shredded lettuce
salt and pepper
2 Tbsp
finely chopped celery
12 slice
roma tomatoes, thinly sliced
8 Tbl.
thick and chunky blue cheese dressing, more if desired

Directions Step-By-Step

1
In frying pan combine chicken, hot sauce, 4 Tbl. butter, bbq sauce and chili powder. Heat til simmering. Simmer on very low. In small bowl, combine 1 1/2 sticks soft butter, garlic and parsley. Spread insides of hoagie rolls with butter mixture, (both cut sides.) Place open-faced on cookie sheet and broil til lightly toasted. Or 4 minutes at 400º. Top each bottom half of hoagie rolls with meat mixture, (pile high), then top each with 2 slices muenster cheese. Return to oven and bake 2 more minutes. Remove from oven and top each with lettuce tossed with celery, and a pinch each of salt and pepper. Top each with 3 tomato slices.
Top each with 2 Tbl. blue cheese dressing. Place on top halves of toasted hoagie rolls. Cut in half on the bias. Makes 4 hoagies.

Oh my stars!!! These were so amazing! I actually used fresh chicken tenders and cut them into strips because I had them on hand. My husband and I had these on a Monday night and they were so good!! We both love wings and this really hit that craving so well! The mix of the lettuce and celery was divinely fresh on the sandwich. I loved the crunch! If you are looking for a wonderful way to do wings without the wing, this is the way to go! Especially on game day! Just be sure to make a lot because everyone will want more!

We just had these tonight for dinner and they were a hit. I used a few variations just because of what we had in the house but nothing major. My only gripe with this recipe is the ingredient entry for the chicken (common sense beats this but still...) and the step-by-step. It's simple enough to follow but it did get a bit hard to pick up where I left off. Still, definitely blue ribbon worthy.

My wife went nuts over this sandwich. I give it a blue ribbon and a trophy.
