My mother used to make this very same pie. After her Brown Sugar Pie, it was our favorite. I've not had this version of chess pie since she died over 30 years ago. I will have to make it soon. Thanks for posting.

I'm mom! Erin makes this pit better than I do. It's a great pie. You will usually have all the ingredience in the kitchen. Thanks Erin for sharing it with others.

I love chess pie! Anybody know where it originated? Back in the western days women cooked with what they had on hand. As mentioned, the ingredients are pretty much staples in the kitchen. One day the husband came home and asked as he came in, "What's for supper"? The wife told him. Then he asked, "What kind of pie is that"? Wife said, "Jest pie". In later years it became known as "Chess Pie"!
Really, this is the truth! Just a little something I remember reading in one of Louis Lamour's western books.

Hi Erin, I'm going to try baking your pie tomorrow but since I only have wheat flour for now, I was wondering whether you've ever used wheat flour on this recipe vs the regular flour. Thank you for sharing! This recipe sounds delish!

My pie turned out great w/ 1 tbsp of wheat flour! This is what I have for now & I'm glad it turned out great. I like the thin toasty crust on top & I used a graham cracker crust so the cream made a perfect blend & gave the perfect crunch! Thanks again for sharing :)
