I have been making this pie for a long time and everyone raves about the crust and topping. I personally do not like apple pie, but love this for the same reasons.

Ingredients

4 c
apples, peeled and sliced
3/4 c
sugar, white
1/2 tsp
cinnamon
1/4 tsp
nutmeg
3/4 c
flour
1/2 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 tsp
cinnamon (additional)
1/2 c
butter, unsalted

puff pastry shells (Puff Pastry)

Directions Step-By-Step

Preheat oven to 425F.

In a large bowl combine apples, white sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and nutmeg.

Place 1 puff pastry shell into a pie tin, then pour apple mixture into the shell.

In another bowl blend flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and butter with your fingers to make coarse crumbs.

Sprinkle over apples evenly, reserving about 1/4 for later.

Cut remaining puff pastry shell into strips and weave over apples, pressing the ends into the pastry overlapping the edge of the tin.

Pinch the pastry decoratively, then sprinkle remaining sugar crumbs over the woven pastry strips.

Bake for 45 minutes, then remove from oven and let rest 10 minutes before serving.
