|6 medium||apples, golden delicious or granny smith, sliced|
|1/2 c||browm sugar|
|1 tsp||cream of tartar|
|PIE CRUST FOR DOUBLE CRUST PIE|
|1 tsp||baking powder|
|1 1/4 c||butter flavor shortening|
|1 tsp||white vinegar|
|1 large||egg, beaten|
|4 Tbsp||ice cold water|
Put apples in a large bowl. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over apples. Toss gently to coat well. Put in a 9" pie crust, dot with butter, adjust top crust and bake at 450 for 15 minutes and then 350 for 45 minutes.
For pie crust; Mix together flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl. Cut in shortening. Add vinegar and egg, then add water. Mix to form a dough ball, separate into two balls, roll out on floured surface.
