I came across this recipe a while back. I tweaked it a bit. The Bacon apple and maple blend beautifully together. It is a sweet,and savory dessert. Bacon isn't just for breakfast. It pairs so well with many dishes. I am truly excited to share this recipe with you all. Enjoy!
1Cook the 6 slices of bacon. Drain bacon on paper towel. Save 1 tablespoon of bacon drippings. Place in small bowl and refrigerate.
2place 2 slices of bacon in food processor. Pulse until ground finely.
Add 1 1/2 cups of flour,2 tablespoons of sugar,and 1/4 tsp cinnamon. Pulse until well mixed.
3add the cold bacon drippings. Blend to combine well.
Add the cold chopped butter. Blend until dough is combined well and starts to look like peas. Add 4 Tablespoons of water. pulse until dough looks well mixed and sticks together.
4remove dough. Form in to a ball.Flatten in to a disc. Place between saran wrap,and refrigerate an hour.
Take dough and roll between floured parchment,or wax paper in to a 13 inch circle.
5Remove the top piece of parchment paper and lay the dough with the parchment paper on to baking sheet. Put in fridge while making filling.
Preheat oven to 375 degree's
6Peal apples, and cut each one in to 16th's. in a bowl combine the apple slices with the 1/3 cup of sugar. 1 tsp cinnamon. 1/4 tsp nutmeg,and 1/4 tsp ginger,and 1 tablespoon of flour. Mix well to combine.
7take dough out of fridge. place the apples in the center of the dough. Bring the sides up slightly curling over the apples. brush the dough with beaten egg. Sprinkle the 4 chopped slices of bacon on top with 3 tablespoons of sugar on top and on dough. Place in oven slightly covered with foil to prevent over browning. Remove from oven when browned and apples are cooked. Brush the top with maple syrup while still hot. Cool slightly before serving.
