Ingredients

FOR THE SYRUP

1 1/2 c
water
1 1/2 c
sugar
1 Tbsp
lemon juice

FOR THE BAKLAVA

1/2 lb
filo sheets
1/3 c
unsalted butter, melted
1 c
hazelnuts, chopped (or any nuts)
3/4 tsp
cinnamon

Directions Step-By-Step

For the syrup: in a saucepan dissolve the sugar in the water over medium heat then add the lemon juice. Bring to boil then let it boil softly for 20 minutes. Set aside to cool while you make the baklava.

For the baklava: Preheat oven to 390 degrees. Brush a large rectangular oven pan with melted butter.
Take 2 - 3 filo sheets and lay them in the pan, brush them with melted butter, add 2 - 3 more sheets and brush with butter. Repeat this till you use half the sheets.

Spread the chopped nuts evenly on top, sprinkle with the cinnamon then add the rest of the filo sheets the same way as before brushing with melted butter every 2 - 3 sheets. Cut into diamonds.
Cut or score into 12 pieces

Bake at 390 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes or till light golden brown. Take out of the oven and immediately pour the cool syrup all over.
