Ingredients

1/2 c
shortening
1/2 c
cocoa
2 c
sugar
2
eggs
2 c
sifted flour
1/2 tsp
salt
1 1/2 tsp
baking soda (mixed with buttermilk)
3/4 c
buttermilk
1/2 tsp
baking powder
1 c
hot water
1 tsp
vanilla

Step-By-Step

1Cream together shortening, cocoa, sugar and eggs.

2add flour, salt, buttermilk with soda, and baking powder. Mix well; then add 1 cup hot water and 1 teaspoon vanilla. This is a soft batter. Bake in two 8 inch layers pays well greased and floured or in a sheet cake. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes. Frost with your favorite frosting.
