i have used this recipe for many years, i have tried others but this is the best

Ingredients

21/2 c
sifted self rising flour
1 1/2 c
sugar
1 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
cocoa powder
1 c
buttermilk
1 1/2 c
cooking oil
2
eggs
1 tsp
vanilla extract
2
bottles red food coloring

CREAM CHEESE ICING

1 stick
butter, room temperature
1-8 oz
cream cheese, room temperature
1 tsp
vanilla extract
1 c
chopped nuts if you want them
1 box
powdered sugar

MIX WELL CAN ALSO DOUBLE ICING RECIPE

Step-By-Step

1sift flour,before measuring-this is easy start at the top and add all ing. to a stand mixer or use a hand mixer and mix on low for 4 minutes.
2grease and flour 2- 8 in pans pour in mixture and bake at 350 for 28 minutes
3cool in pans 10 minutes then turn out onto paper towels to cool
4the top will leave some crumbs on the paper towels ,i always crumble them on top of the iced cke --really pretty
