In a large bowl, mix all cake ingredients. Pour into a greased 8x8 pan and cook for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Just before taking cake out of the oven, prepare the topping. To do this, place all topping ingredients in a sauce pan over med heat until they come to a boil (stir frequently to prevent sugar from burning). Once boiling, stir for 30 seconds and then remove from heat.
Remove cake from oven and allow to cool for 2-3 minutes. Poke holes in the cake using a fork. Pour topping over the cake and let sit uncovered to cool.
