Billie's Notes:

This recipe comes from a 1968 recipe book titled,"Favorite Recipes From Church of GOD Ladies". Each of the recipes has the ladies' name and home town and I will include this with the recipe and if you know or are related to this person, I would really like to know. The recipes I post from this cookbook are ones I have tried and really like or are unusual due to ingredients or possibly due to the number of recipes with the same name but are different in some way. I hope you enjoy.
I know some the recipes are really lacking in some or all areas, but I am posting them as they are in the cookbook

Directions

1
Melt candy over low heat; add syrup
2
Mix flour, soda and salt.
3
Cream butter and sugar together in large bowl; add eggs, 1 at a time.
4
Add flour mixture and buttermilk alternately.
5
Beat for about 2 minutes at high speed.
6
Add chocolate mix and vanilla; mix well.
7
Place in large well-greased tube pan.
8
Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 30 minutes.

This cake was so yummy.
I baked it in a bundt pan and took it to work and it was gone within a split second. One of my coworkers even said it was by far the best cake she's had.
I'm more of a dark chocolate person, so I used hershey's special dark bars in place of the regular ones. I actually bought two giant size bars and used 1 1/2 bars for the cake and used the remaining 1/2 to make chocolate ganache and drizzled on top so that it would flow down the cake. That way I didn't have to frost or decorate my cake as it gave flavorful look and helped the cake stay moist!
