Chocolate and caramel are always a pick-me-up in this house. My children love this coffee cake and ask for it instead of a regular cake for their birthdays or holidays. The caramel adds just the right touch to make the flavor burst with every bite.

pinch tips: How to Melt and Soften Butter

1/2 lb
butter, softened
1 c
1/2 pt
sour cream
1 tsp
vanilla extract
1 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
baking powder
2 c
all purpose flour
1 pkg
semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 pkg
caramel chips
cinnamon, mixed with sugar

Directions Step-By-Step

Mix first eight ingredients and caramel chips to form dough, divide dough in 1/2 and spread first half into 9x13 buttered and floured baking pan. Cover dough with 1/2 the semi-sweet chocolate chips and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture. Spread 2nd half of dough on top and repeat with 2nd half of chocolate chips and cinnamon sugar.
Bake at 350 degree for 30 minutes. This coffee cake is good warm and cold! If you want to, sometimes I add a caramel drizzle on the top and serve it warm with a dark Colombian coffee.

Hi Jo Ann:
Stumbled upon your recipe and loved the ingredients so thought I'd give it a try! I couldn't find caramel chips so I substituted butterscotch chips - figured how could you go wrong with chocolate and butterscotch, right?!?! I had to bake mine for 45 minutes - at the 30 minute mark, everything was still very loose - 45 minutes seemed to be perfect. It's actually cooling now so I can't wait to cut into it. Thanks for sharing your recipe!!!
