Candy's Story

There is never anything left! I think if the kids could fit their head's in the crockpot they would lick it clean!!

Ingredients

1 c
oats/ steel cut oats
3 1/3 c
liquid

Directions Step-By-Step

1
Cook on low for 8 hours. These are the basic ingredients, I say "liquid" because I use the juice from canned fruits as part of the "water" in this recipe! The picture shown is cinnamon maple cranberry. I made this with dried cranberries, all the liquid was water, I just added some maple and brown sugar to sweeten a little!
You can add dried fruits & nuts, any canned fruit works great, fresh fruit, Ive even made it with diced winter squash! (shhh dont tell the kids!)
this is a wonderful, filling recipe you can do nearly anything with!
I Love the creativity with this one!
Hope you enjoy!

If your's are ending up soupy/to liquidy, you can always add less liquid!
Ours turn out, not soupy, but not solid! I'm probably going to be in trouble if this ole crockpot ever gives out on me, I have a newer very nice hamilton beach crockpot, but it almost always burns things, it is NOT a set it and forget it crockpot at all!
I hope you all will play around with your liquid amounts to get this recipe to your liking, you'll never go back to another kind of oatmeal!

Everyone says this oatmeal is so good. I have tried it several times and in a new as well as older crock pot. Every time mine is soupy, nothing like oatmeal at all. I just want plain oatmeal. I usually add butter, brown sugar and a bit of half and half to mine after it's cooked. Wish I could get it right. So disappointing in the morning when it is a mess.

Tried this recipe last night. I did half water, half milk, GF rolled oats, walnuts, raisins and coconut flakes. I added about a 1/4 cup of brown sugar too. I was surprised how soupy and brown it was in the morning! I started it at 11:30 and spooned it out at 6. I guess I like my oatmeal with a bit more texture...this was more like farina I guess. I wish I could find Steel cut oats that werent contaminated with wheat! I ate it in the car on the way to work...I think I will eat the leftovers now; it seems to have stiffened up a bit.
Added a pat of butter and some sea salt to the mug. Next time I will put the salt in right away.

It might be a altitude difference to! I put mine in an old crockpot at 9pm on low and it's perfectly done at 5am
