Grandma Beck's Gingerbread

Dark, spicy and oh so yummy. Try is with freshly whipped cream OR a nice tart lemon sauce - or both!

Ingredients

2 1/2 c
flour
1 1/2 tsp
ground ginger
1 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
salt
1/2 c
crisco
q/2 c
boiling water
1 c
dark molasses (full-flavored)

Step-By-Step

1whisk together the dry ingredients. Melt the Crisco in the boiling water. Add the molasses and blend well.
2Stir in the dry ingredients and mix well. Bake in a greased 8" x 8" pan at 350 degrees F for about 30-40 minutes until it passes the toothpick test.
3Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve with freshly whipped cream, or lemon sauce - or both!
