Julia's Notes:

These scones just came out of the oven. They smell and look amazing. I love scones and usually have to add either orange or lemon zest to perk up the WOW factor.
This recipe comes from Kitchen Aid-3 Cookbooks In 1.
The picture is mine.

Directions

1
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease large baking sheet or line with parchment paper; set aside.
Beat 2 eggs, cream and vanilla in medium bowl; set aside.
2
Conbine flour, baking powder and salt in medium bowl. Cut in butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in dates, raisins and orange zest if using. Add cream mixture; mix until dry ingredients are moistened.
3
With floured hands, knead dough 4 times on lightly floured surface. Place dough on prepared baking sheet; pat into 8-inch circle. With sharp wet knife, gently score dough into 6 wedges, cutting three-fourths of the way through dough.
Beat remaining egg with water; brush lightly over dough.
4
Bake 18-20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 5 minutes on wire rack. Cut into wedges. Serve warm with marmalade and whipped cream, if desired.

Ellen, Thanks, I have not had clotted cream yet, but intend to try it soon. We are having these for dessert later this evening, with butter and orange marmelade. YUM!

Julia, I haven't forgotten about getting together. I'd like to wait a few weeks until the weather improves (IF it does!) because my mobility is rather limited in ice and snow. I need either a cane or a walker ever since my botched knee surgery last May. Actually, walking in this weather is more treacherous for me than driving!

Have you ever been to the Propylaeum downtown? It's in an old house on Delaware. It used to be good but lately I've seen nothing but bad reviews. Anyway, they used to have scones with clotted cream and they were delicious--before they changed management.

Jamie, Thanks for your comment. Not to worry about making them, they are very much like biscuits. Last weekend I made Orange Chip Scones left out the chocolate chips added, dried cranberries, blueberries and golden raisins. They were so good and no kneading to the dough.

Sher, Aw, Thank You. I haven't tasted them yet, but will here in the next hour or so. Every time I go in the kitchen, I'm tempted to pick at the fruit sticking out.

Ellen, I'm with you on getting together after the weather improves. I'm not a fan of getting out in the ice and snow unless I have to. Just being 3 months out from the knee replacements, one of my fears is falling, the other is someone running into me with their grocery cart.
I have never heard of the Propylaeum. I worked downtown, but have been retired for 9 years this coming Oct. and hardly go downtown. I have been wanting to get to the City Market for a while now, just to look around. My Grandmother and Mother both traded at the Market.

Julia, I believe you can buy clotted cream at some supermarkets that have an international food section. I'm sure I've seen it either at Kroger or Meijer. It comes in a jar.

Would you believe I've never been to City Market? I've lived here since 1989--never been to the racetrack either and I live only about 4-1/2 miles from it!

Question: in your profile picture, which one is you?

Judy, I know some of those scones will survive until tomorrow, so..What time is tea tomorrow? You know if I could, I would be there tonight, with my own blankey!!!!

It would be fun to stay in and cook with you and joke with my brother, The Rockstar..
