Ingredients

1 1/2 c
flour, sifted
2 tsp
baking soda
1 1/2 tsp
salt
3/4 c
brown sugar
1/4 c
molasses
2
eggs
2 c
whole wheat flour
1/3 c
shortening
2 c
buttermilk or sour milk
3/4 c
raisins (optional)

Step-By-Step

1Sift together white flour, soda, and salt.

2Add whole wheat flour (do not sift).

3Add brown sugar.

4Add shortening. Cut in with pastry blender until mixture resembles course meal.

5In another bowl, beat eggs. Add molasses and milk to beaten eggs.

6Add wet mixture to the dry mixture. Add raisins - optional. Mix until all flour is dampened.

7Turn into greased loaf pan. Bake in 350 degree oven for about 1 hour.
