Ingredients

3 c all purpose flour, plus more for dusting
1 tsp salt
1-1/2 stick butter (use unsalted)
3/4 c vegetable shortening
1 egg
5 Tbsp cold water
1 Tbsp distilled white vinegar
Pinched by Johnnette, and 64 more.

Melissa's Notes:

I am sure that someone else has posted this same recipe. I just wanted to be able to find it quickly...Basic, all American pie crust.

I used this and it was perfectly wonderful!

 

Directions

Combine the flour and salt in a large bowl. Add in the butter and shortening. Using a pastry cutter, gradually work the butter and shortening into the flour until the mixture resembles tiny pebbles. This step should take 3 or 4 minutes.

Lightly beat the egg with a fork, and then add it to the mixture. Next, add in the cold water and vinegar. Stir the mixture together until it's just combined, and then remove half the dough from the bowl.

Yield: dough for 2 crusts.

I have this recipe in my collection of pie crusts.....I have so many pie crust recipes and use all of them from time to time. But mostly use my Aunt Maxine's recipe most.

Whew! I am glad you both approve...I am buying the stuff today to make...I've never had a "go to" pie crust. Hope this is it!

Have you tried my Aunt Maxine Poling's fool-proof recipe for Pie Crust it's my most go-to crust.
