Colleen Sowa Recipe

Classic Corn Dog Batter

By Colleen Sowa colleenlucky7

I got this recipe from the booklet in the machine, "The Original Carnival Treat Factory". It is a fun thing to make with the children. I like to make these before we go to festivals and carnivals, that way we can spend our money on other things!

*** If you have a recipe for baked donuts, you can use it with this machine!!

Directions Step-By-Step

1
In a mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix well. Cut hot dogs into the correct size to fit the Corn Dog maker cavity. Insert a wooden skewer into each hot dog, to make a "handle". With a tablespoon fill the corn dog maker about 2/3 full and lay hot dog while on the stick into the corn dog cavity. Add more batter on top of the hot dog and close the top securely. Do Not overfill the cavities with the batter as the filling will rise during the baking process. Bake until the hot dog is lightly brown, for a crunchier coating leave in longer.

*** The maker does not give a time for cooking.

Colleen, that looks like a healthier version as you don't deep fry in oil. And the first time I ever saw a hot dog machine like that!!
Back in the late 70's our branch of LDS members had a consession stand to raise money and we did these but they were and are still called Pronto Pups. Hubby and i used to go and help at the stand.
And Hawaii has a hot dog that is not like the ones here that is sooo good. Perhaps Jo Ann can dig up a recipe with pictures to show that hot dog, Its hard to describe it. Thanks for this recipe.

Hi Shirley! Thanks for the comments! I bought this machine last year, and the kids love it... we make other things in it too... including baked donut sticks and pancake batter with sausages.

I am LDS, we don't do fund raising things... The Hawaiian hot dogs sound good... I use to have a hot dog cart in Chicago area.

    Take care xo Colleen
