This isn't your everyday monkey bread! Inside each flaky biscuit is a sweet cream cheese filling surprise. It's also layered with a brown sugar glaze that bakes into the bread. The nuts on top add a nice crunch and are caramelized. They take on a praline flavor. Whether your guests pull it apart or slice it, this monkey bread will disappear in no time.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed
  • 2 tubes 10-count refrigerated buttermilk flaky biscuits
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 package cream cheese cut into 20 cubes (8 oz)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

How To Make surprise monkey bread

  • Butter and brown sugar in a bowl in a microwave.
    Step 1
    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a small microwave-safe bowl, heat brown sugar and butter on high for 1 minute or until sugar is dissolved; set aside.
  • Flattening a biscuit.
    Step 2
    Flatten each biscuit into a 3-in. circle.
  • Sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
    Step 3
    Combine sugar and cinnamon.
  • 1/2 tsp of cinnamon sugar on the flattened biscuit.
    Step 4
    Sprinkle a heaping 1/2 teaspoon in the center of each biscuit.
  • A cube of cream cheese on the biscuit and pinching the biscuit closed.
    Step 5
    Top with a cream cheese cube. Fold dough over filling; pinch edges to seal tightly.
  • Adding walnuts to a Bundt pan.
    Step 6
    Sprinkle 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts (if desired) into a 10-in fluted tube pan coated with cooking spray.
  • Half the biscuits added to the pan.
    Step 7
    Layer in order with half of the biscuits.
  • Half the brown sugar and butter mixture added to the pan.
    Step 8
    Then top with 1/2 brown sugar and butter mixture.
  • Walnuts sprinkled into the pan and layers repeated.
    Step 9
    Then sprinkle 1/2 cup walnuts or pecans. Repeat layers.
  • Monkey bread baking in the oven.
    Step 10
    Bake at 350° for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Hot monkey bread inverted onto a plate.
    Step 11
    Immediately invert onto a serving platter. Serve warm. Refrigerate leftovers. Yield: 1 loaf (12 servings).
