Jenny's Notes:

I make this quite often at my house and it's always a BIG hit! There are 9 people that live here and 5 of them are children who just love this! I usually will double all the ingredients except the meat and make 2 casseroles very cheap! =) I hope you enjoy my concoction of burgery goodness as much as my kids do!

This was like a cheeseburger deluxe! We love the super cheesiness of the dish and found ourselves going back for seconds and thirds.

Directions

1
Pre-Heat the oven to 440 degrees. Butter your 6 slices of bread and put them butter-side down in an un-greased baking dish (I use the long Pyrex dish). Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheese over the bread.
2
Prepare the 2 boxes of mac 'n' cheese per package directions. During this time you can also start on the meat.
3
Combine all the "Ingredients mixed with meat" in a large skillet. Brown the meat until it is almost done. There should still be a few pieces of meat that are not cooked all the way. (Don't worry, they will cook the rest of the way in the oven.)
4
Now the mac 'n' cheese should be done and needs to be poured onto the the cheesed bread. Then pour the meat onto the mac 'n' cheese. Sprinkle the other cup of shredded cheese on top of the meat. Then sprinkle the pickles and onions on top. Last you get your ketchup bottle and squeeze "zig-zags" of ketchup on top of the casserole.
5
Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is all melted and the meat is all done.

Made this twice now, once following the recipe exact and again tonight substituting crinkle cut french fries in place of the bread. We also left the ketchup off the whole thing and let people add it if they like. This is a great flavorful recipe and the pickles were our favorite part!

The pickles are my favorite part too! I've started using the dill hamburger chips instead of chopping pickles. I love being able to substitute things! =)

Jenny my boyz are gonna love this...Im not a ground beef girl so don't make very many things with it but they beg for burgers every once in awhile so this will be a great go to recipe for them. Can't wait to try it! Thanks for the idea!

Melissa Louise, I like the idea of the crinkle fries. did you just use them frozen or partially cook them 1st? I'm looking forward to making this real soon. Thx for your post Jenny :)

Cheers to you Jenny! I made this on Monday night and it was a huge hit! I told the family that we were having Cheeseburger Deluxe Casserole. Deluxe because I topped it with sliced tomato while baking and added chopped iceberg lettuce for garnish. It tastes just like a Deluxe Cheeseburger from an old fashioned diner. I served french fries alongside it. Thanks for the great recipe I'm putting this one in my "go to" recipe box.
