My sister-in-law use to experiment with all kinds of roll recipes, but this was one of the all time favorites. Hope you enjoy it too!

Ingredients For buttermilk rolls

  • 1 pkg
    Yeast (pkg. or cake)
  • 1/4 c
    Warm Water
  • 1/2 tsp
    Sugar
  • 3/4 c
    Buttermilk (scalded)
  • 1/4 c
    Crisco Shortening
  • 1/4 tsp
    Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    Salt
  • 2 Tbsp
    Sugar
  • 2 1/4 c
    Flour

How To Make buttermilk rolls

    Mix together yeast disolved in the warm water with the 1/2 tsp. of sugar added. -Scald Buttermilk and melt the crisco in the buttermilk. Mix the yeast and buttermilk mixtures together .

    In a large bowl ,combine the remaining dry ingredients. Mix together the baking soda, salt, 2 Tbls. sugar and the flour. Add the liquid ingredirents to the dry ingredients. Let sit for 10 minutes. Roll mixture into a ball and let rise for (1) hour (or until doubled in size). Pinch off pieces of dough and shape into palm size rolls and place on lightly greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown (about 15-20 minutes). Roll a little butter on each roll before removing from pan. Enjoy!
