To Donna Graffagino, you just repeat with the other half of onion.

Susan Sackinger, I have been cooking, chopping, baking, etc., since age 11. That is 48 years. I have never cared about even sizes, and in fact, I prefer them to be different. To me that adds “character “.

I worked at a fast food place and what we did was peeled a bunch of onions cut them in half put them in a large plastic container with a screw top lid and keep them in the walk in freezer (just a really cold fridge) for at least a day..then we would chop what we needed...i never cried...if u try this at home put the container in the back where it's the coldest...it really works, did it for many years.

I got nervous just by watching whoever that was doing it, didn't look very secure in what they were doing AT ALL! no need for the slice through just halve slice once through the rings and then cute through that. no need slicing through the rings, already divided. BESIDES A LESSER CHEF WILL END UP CUTTING THEMSELVES!!!

I use the pampered chef chopper for my onions and most veggies.

Hint on cutting onions without your eyes burning....works every time..... just take a piece of bread and hold it between your lips the entire time you are cutting the onion......no tears.... try it

To keep your eyes from burning: Wear swimming or ski goggles, or better yet, purchase onion goggles. Lots of places sell them, including Amazon. Not expensive, and oh so worth it.

Lurene Fisher... have your husband do it. Onions don't seem to bother me, so my bride saves most of her onion chopping for me. Hope he's a helpful sort. Well, or at least I hope you've got another soul about to chop `em for you. Hint that it's a guy thing, because guys don't react to the fumes as severely as you. If it's another gal you have around, well, I just don't know what to say... clothespin on your nose, perhaps.

Similar to how Gordon Ramsey shows you on his You Tube video. It works.

Susan. You might give us *your* "Perfect" method, although I'm not convinced even-size pieces is of importance in most, if not all, recipes

Can't say I agree with this method. If you know any geometry you'll know that this doesn't make even sized pieces. You have to take into account the rings and in this case you aren't.
