While making baked beans for a family BBQ, I decided to make my own recipe. A few minutes of tweaking the flavors to get it just the way I liked, and I ended up with a baked bean recipe that everyone seems to love. Just catered a wedding for my cousin, and the photographer asked if I wanted to be a professional caterer for a package deal she was creating; because she said and I quote, "These are the best baked beans I have ever had". Hope everyone who makes them enjoys them like my family does.

Ingredients

  • 4 cans (15 ounce cans) pork and beans
  • 7 slices bacon
  • 1/2 - onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

How To Make my original baked bean recipe

  • Step 1
Slice bacon into bite sized pieces. In skillet fry bacon over medium to medium high heat until most fat has rendered, and is almost fully cooked, but not real crispy
  • Step 2
Remove bacon from pan, add onions and cook on med-low to med heat until onion is soft and translucent.
  • Step 3
While onions are cooking, add the 4 cans of beans into an oven safe casserole dish.
  • Step 4
In a separate bowl, mix together Molasses, Tomato paste, Mustard, Garlic and Brown Sugar.
  • Step 5
Add Molasses mixture and bacon and onions to beans and mix to combine.
  • Step 6
Bake at 350 for an hour, or until mixture thickens and it is the consistency you prefer.
