How to Make Navy Beans ala MiMi

Step-by-Step

  1. Soak beans overnight; drain; rinse; place in large pot (like a dutch oven) and cover with water about an inch higher than the beans.
  2. Using kitchen gloves, break up ground beef into the water in the pot. Add all other ingredients and bring to boil on top of stove. Reduce to simmer and cook, covered, for about 2 hours, stirring about every 30 minutes. Add water if it begins to look like it's not moist enough. We like these not soupy, but also with a nice amount of liquid in them.
