This is an emergency substitute for molasses or pancake syrup.

Keep in mind that it is a substitute and that the flavor will be much milder than the real thing! But this is the closest substitute you will find.

Hope this helps!

How to Make Molasses Substitute

Step-by-Step

  1. Put sugar and water into a sauce pan over medium-high heat. Cook stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved and a thick syrup is formed. Cool and put into a jar.
  2. *** This is a substitute... not the real thing!
Brown sugar is made by adding molasses to it... so this syrup will have a very mild molasses flavor, but using this substitute could alter the flavor of the recipe (less molasses flavor).
