This is an emergency substitute for molasses or pancake syrup. Keep in mind that it is a substitute and that the flavor will be much milder than the real thing! But this is the closest substitute you will find. Hope this helps!

yield 1 pint

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 cup water

How To Make molasses substitute

  • Step 1
Put sugar and water into a sauce pan over medium-high heat. Cook stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved and a thick syrup is formed. Cool and put into a jar.
  • Step 2
*** This is a substitute... not the real thing! Brown sugar is made by adding molasses to it... so this syrup will have a very mild molasses flavor, but using this substitute could alter the flavor of the recipe (less molasses flavor).
