This is just a twist on the classic vanilla whoopie pie. The only thing that is different is the filling.

unsalted butter at room temp.
1/2 c
4 Tbsp
vegetable oil
1/2 c
brown sugar, firmly packed
2 large
1/2 c
2 Tbsp
1 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
white vinegar
1 tsp
vanilla extract


1 1/4 c
confectioners' sugar
6 oz
cream cheese at room temp
grated orange zest
1/2 c
butter, room temp
1/2 tsp
vanilla extract
1 tsp
fresh orange juice

How to Make Creamsicle Whoopie Pies


  • 1Preheat oven to 350* and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • 2Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt onto a sheet of waxed paper.
  • 3In a large bowl beat together the butter, shortening, and both sugars until light and creamy about 3 min.
  • 4Add the eggs and the buttermilk until combined. In a measuring cup combine the milk, baking soda and vinegar.
  • 5Alternate the milk mixture, and the flour mixture when adding to the batter. Beat on low until combined.
  • 6Add the vanilla and beat on med. speed about 2 min. until until completely combined.
  • 7Using a cookie scoop drop about 1 tablespoon of batter onto the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  • 8Bake one sheet at a time for about 10 min. or until the edges are golden. Remove from oven and let cool on sheet for 5 min. Then place on wire racks to cool completely.
  • 9For the filling ~ sift the confectioners sugar on to parchment paper.
  • 10In a medium bowl beat together the cream cheese, and sugar on low speed until well combined.
  • 11Add the orange zest, butter, vanilla and orange juice. Increase the speed to medium and beat until creamy and smooth about 4 min.
