How to Make Plain old Fashion Tea-Scones

Step-by-Step

  1. pre-heat oven to 200c, grease a baking sheet.
sift the flour , baking powder and salt together in a bowl.
Rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs, stir in the sugar.
Make a well in the centre and pour in a sufficient amount of milk to make a soft dough.
  2. Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured work surface a knead lightly. Roll out to a thickness of about 1 inch. Don't be heavy handed , scones need a light touch . using a cutter or a floured glass (turned up side down) cut out 8 scones and put onto a prepared baking sheet. Brush each scone with the beaten egg + salt mix ,this will leave a shining glaze on top of baked scones.
Place into a pre-headed oven for 12 - 15 minutes until well risen and golden. Transfer to a wire rack and leave to cool.
  3. NOTE = YOU CAN ALSO ADD TO THE DRY INGREDIENTS BEFORE YOU ADD THE MILK 3 TABLESPOONS OF SULTANAS FOR FRUIT SCONES ,3 TABLESPOONS OF GLACE CHERRICES (CHOPPED) FOR CHERRY SCONES..
TO SERVE = Split and serve still warm with a dollop of whipped cream and strawberry jam go on be bold....enjoy...:)
