There is no doubt that the title, The Best Crusty Bread" is absolutely correct.
I did a couple of tweaks to suit my taste, and that was the addition of a teaspoon of sugar. I also dumped all of the ingredients into a gallon zip lock bag, squeezed out the excess air and then kneaded the bag to incorporate it.
I left the bag open just enough to vent it. I decided to do this before bedtime, because the bag had expanded from the yeast working to the point I was afraid the bag would pop. Lol
14 hours later, I dumped the contents and turned the bag inside out to remove all of the dough. Turned it right side out again and the dishes were done!
It was beautifully bubbly and it had an almost sour dough aroma from the dough. After forming it, I made three slits on top of the dough and
I baked it in my cast iron Dutch oven with the lid and it turned out perfectly.
My family has already tried this bread and I was told that the toast I made with it, "Was the best toast I've ever had in my life".
I'm so appreciative for this recipe! Now I don't have to buy bread at the grocery store as often.
It's incredibly easy to make, took little effort, has few ingredients, easy clean up, and best of all, it is the best bread I've ever made. I'm almost 70 years old and have baked bread for years. I'm so glad the recipe intrigued me enough to give it a try.
