Thank you for input on the kneading time...being a bread baker I winged it, and had kneaded until it was smooth and elastic, but I think for novices the clarification would help.
I did have one egg crack and dribble out on this attempt (4-7-12), which I didn't notice until I pulled the bread from the oven. This was the first time an egg cracked on me, and I have made similar recipes several times in my life, so I tend to think it was a flaw with the egg and not the recipe or cooking method.
Joanne, I keep wondering WHY the raw eggs though? Won't they "cook" and perhaps explode or at least crack and get all over the baking bread? I know - it hasn't happened to you yet... but trust me, if I want it for something special it will most likely happen to my bread. Just asking. It's so pretty, one has to nestle the colored eggs in the bread braids. I am going to try it. thank you again...
Hi Phyllis...hope you enjoy. It's such a nice addition to an Easter table. It's a bit of a sweet bread and it's dense, so it's different from a typical bread but I love it. Which means it's a good thing I only make it once a year. ;-)
