salt pork or bacon ends
turnip, peeled and chopped
parsnip, chopped, optional
1Render pork slices in a heavy saucepan.
2Cut slices in sereral pieces and return to the pan with the onion and pepper.
3Stir and cook slowly for 5 minutes.
4Add cabbage, carrots, turnips and parsnip.
5Cook for 1/2 hour stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon.
6Stir in potatoes and water.
7Cover closely and let steam for about 1 hour.
8Serve with freshly baked rolls.
