Method:
Stove Top

Ingredients

6 slice
bacon, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
1 medium
onion, finely chopped
3 1/2 c
ham, cubed
3 1/2 c
kielbasa or smoked sausage, cubed
4 1/2 c
chicken broth
5 large
potatoes, diced
1/2 tsp
salt
1/2 tsp
dried dill weed
1/4 tsp
ground black pepper
1/2 c
flour
2 c
half and half
1 can(s)
(12 fluid ounces) evaporated milk

TOPPINGS: ANY COMBINATION OF CRUMBLED BACON, SHREDDED CHEESE, GREEN ONIONS, DRIED CHIVES

Step-By-Step

1Directions for stove top or slow cooker:
Place bacon and onion in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until bacon is evenly brown and onions are soft. Drain off excess grease.
2Transfer the bacon and onion to a dutch oven or slow cooker, and stir in ham, kielbasa/sausage, chicken broth, water, potatoes, salt, dill weed, and pepper.
3If making on stove top, cover, and simmer in dutch oven until potatoes are done, about 30 mins, stir occasionally. In slow cooker, cook on Low 6 to 7 hours, stirring occasionally.
4In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and half-and-half. Stir into the soup along with the evaporated milk. If making on stove top, cover and simmer gently until thickened, about 15-20 mins. In slow cooker, cover, and cook another 30 minutes before serving. Add toppings to individual servings, if desired. Serves 10
