This recipe came about because my son loves a cheeseburger, but hates pickles and most of the cheeseburger chowders had diced pickles or pickle juice in them.

Ingredients For cheeseburger chowder

  • 1 2/3 lb
    ground chuck
  • 2 md
    red potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 1/2 c
    water
  • 1/2 c
    chopped celery
  • 2 tsp
    minced garlic
  • 1/4 c
    chopped onion
  • 2 Tbsp
    chopped green pepper
  • 1 Tbsp
    beef flavored bouillon granules
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 3 Tbsp
    all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 c
    milk, divided
  • 1 1/2 c
    shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1/2 c
    shredded American cheese
  • 4 Tbsp
    bacon crumbles, to garnish, optional

How To Make cheeseburger chowder

    Brown the ground chuck in a 3 quart saucepan, stirring until it crumbles; drain.

    Add the potatoes, water, celery, garlic, onions, green bell peppers, beef bouillon granules, and salt. Stir well. Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.

    Combine the flour and 1/2 cup milk; add to the vegetable mixture, stirring constantly. Stir in the remaining milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is thickened.

    Add 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese and the American cheese; cook, stirring constantly, just until the cheese melts. Ladle the soup into individual bowls and sprinkle with additional sharp cheddar and bacon crumbles, if desired.
