Texas Family Chili

This is the chili my mom made when we were growing up. I've not changed it much, except occasionally adding beans for my husband.

Prep:

Cook:
2 Hr 30 Min

Ingredients

2 large
onions
2 Tbsp
chopped garlic - or can use garlic salt to taste
1 Tbsp
salt (less if using garlic salt)
2 1/2 Tbsp
cumin
1/4 tsp
oregano
2 1/2 lb
hamburger
1/3 c
chili powder
1/4 c
flour
4 - 8 c
water
1 can(s)
tomatoes (large can, petite diced)

Step-By-Step

1Brown hamburger and onions until the hamburger is cooked. Drain grease. Sprinkle flour, garlic, salt, cumin, oregano, and chili powder over cooked meat and onions. Stir well. Add canned tomatoes and water. Stir well. Taste and adjust the seasonings or water to your liking. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Cook for 2 - 3 hours on low. Add salt to taste.
2You may use a can of Rotel and a small can of tomatoes for a little heat in place of the large can of tomatoes.
3You may add two cans of pinto beans - don't drain, juice will help thicken chili.
