I kept tweaking my chili recipe until I finally settled on this one. It has received my family's seal of approval :)

Ingredients

1 1/2 lb
ground beef- sirloin or round
1 1/2 c
onion, chopped
1 c
green bell pepper, chopped
2 clove
garlic, minced
1 can(s)
28oz. crushed tomatoes, plain or italian style
2 Tbsp
chili powder
2 1/2 tsp
salt
2 tsp
cumin powder
1/2 tsp
oregano, dried
1/4 tsp
basil, dried
1/8 tsp
cayenne pepper (or to taste)
3/4 tsp
celery seed
2 can(s)
16oz. kidney beans, drained (or)
2 can(s)
16oz. chili beans, in chili sauce, undrained

Directions Step-By-Step

In a dutch oven, cook beef, onion, green pepper and garlic until meat is lightly browned.
Drain any accumulated fat.

Add tomatoes and all spices and bring to the boiling point. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 - 3 hours. Add the kidney or chili beans in the last 45 minutes of cooking.

May thicken if desired with a paste of flour or cornstarch mixed with water, slowly added while stirring.
