  • 2 tablespoons bacon drippings
  • 4 cups shredded red cabbage
  • 2 cups cubed unpared apple
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 dash pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1/4 cup water

How To Make pennsylvania red cabbage

  • Step 1
    Heat drippings in skillet; add remaining ingredients and 1/4 cup water. Cook uncovered over low heat; stir occasionally.
  • Step 2
    For crisp cabbage, cook 15 minutes; for tender, 25 to 30 minutes.
