Ingredients

1 box
elbow macaroni, cooked
1 qt
milk
8 Tbsp
unsalted butter
8 oz
sharp cheddar grated, white
1/2 tsp
pepper
1/2 tsp
nutmeg
1
tomato sliced, optional
1 c
bread crumbs
4 c
gruyere cheese, about 12 ounces
1/2 c
flour

Step-By-Step

1Cook and drain pasta according to directions.
2Heat milk in sauce pan. Do not boil. Add butter and flour, whisking. Keep on low heat until thickening begins.
3Remove from heat and add spices and cheeses. Stir in pasta.
4Pour into 3 quart dishing. Arrange tomato slices down center, on top of pasta.
5Melt 2 tablespoons butter and add bread crumbs. Stir and sprinkle over pasta.

Bake 30-35 ,minutes.
